Wolfe Research: Firm History, Leadership, Key Hires, and Open Roles

By The Street Scout Staff

Recently our team has seen numerous job postings at a well-established boutique firm.  As a result, we decided to dig a little deeper for our readers!  Wolfe Research is an independent, institutionally focused sell-side firm. Ed Wolfe founded it in April 2008 after the collapse of Bear Stearns, leaving with a small team and launching a 10-person transports boutique. The firm has since grown into a full-service shop of roughly 250–300 people, with headquarters at 757 Third Avenue in New York and offices in Boston, San Francisco, Houston, London, and other cities. It now offers equity research, quantitative and strategy work (QES), sales, trading, alternative data, and selective capital-markets work through the Wolfe | Nomura alliance. In 2025, clients ranked Wolfe #6 on a weighted basis in the Extel All-America Research Poll, behind only much larger bulge-bracket firms.

The early years were narrow by design. Wolfe was a #1-ranked Airfreight & Surface Transportation analyst and built the firm around that franchise. He later concluded a single-sector shop could not serve clients through every cycle, so coverage expanded across industrials, energy, consumer, healthcare, financials, TMT, and macro. François Trahan joined in 2010 to lead strategy and later departed. In 2013 Wolfe handed his own sector to Scott Group and stopped covering stocks, an unusual move among boutique founders. A $4.5 million seed round in 2020 supported further growth. The firm’s pitch remains consistent: research comes first, not banking.

Key hires, past five years

Wolfe’s growth has come largely by recruiting ranked or specialist analysts and then giving them a research-first platform. The last five years show a clear pattern: deepen healthcare and TMT, add macro and policy, and backfill franchise seats when veterans retire.

2021–2022. Andrew Rosivach joined in February 2021 to build REITs coverage after a stint as EVP and Chief Credit Officer at STORE Capital and seven years leading REIT research at Goldman Sachs. Deepak Mathivanan arrived from Barclays as large-cap and SMID internet lead. Joshua Tilton joined from Berenberg in July 2021 to cover security software. In 2022, Mike Polark came from Baird to cover medical supplies and devices out of Boston, and Peter Supino left Bernstein to cover cable, satellite, telecom, and media after earlier buy-side roles at Passport Capital and Weitz.

2023. Chris Caso joined in July from Credit Suisse to cover semiconductors and semi cap equipment, bringing both sell-side and industry engineering experience. Macro was built out the same year: Tobin Marcus joined in September from Evercore ISI as Head of Policy & Politics; Doug Schenkel arrived in October from DELFI Diagnostics (and previously Cowen) as Head of Life Science & Diagnostic Tools; and Stephanie Roth joined in November as Chief Economist from J.P. Morgan Private Bank and, before that, Cornerstone Macro. Roth later ranked as an Extel runner-up; Marcus’s policy team ranked #3 in 2025.

2024. The biggest internal hire was Daire Browne, who joined in September as Global Head of Research from Bank of America, where he ran Americas Equity Research. Emmanuel Rosner arrived in August from Deutsche Bank to cover autos, parts, and auto technology, succeeding Hall of Fame analyst Rod Lache after Lache’s 32-year career, including six years at Wolfe. Alexandria Hammond joined in October as Head of Therapeutics Research. Trevor Allinson took homebuilders and building products.

2025–2026. Tracy Dolin-Benguigui joined in June 2025 to cover life and non-life insurance after heading insurance equity research at Barclays and a long stretch at S&P Global Ratings. George Notter joined the same month as a managing director covering communications infrastructure—networking and telecom gear tied to data centers, cloud, and AI. Kalpit Patel arrived in October 2025 from B. Riley to cover SMID biotech in oncology and rare disease. In February 2026, Dr. Rudy Li joined from Chardan (and earlier Leerink) to cover CNS-focused biotech. Those three healthcare adds sit alongside Hammond, Andy Chen, Polark, Schenkel, and Justin Lake.

He chairs the Executive and Operating Committees and still drives hiring, strategy, and culture.
